Bangkok’s international airport, Suvarnabhumi, frequently handles most flights into and out of Thailand. The airport also serves domestic flights. Suvarnabhumi was inaugurated in 2006 and has since been in operation. If you’re curious about the meaning of the name, it means “the golden land” and is one of the busiest airports in Thailand and Asia. Bangkok city is around 30 kilometres from Suvarnabhumi. By way of the Airport Rail Link, taxis, and buses, the airport is well connected to the city. There are four floors in the airport.
Facilities:
Arrivals
Domestic and international arrivals are located on the second floor. In the hallway, you may find amenities like banks, currency exchanges, ATMs, and telecom stores.
Meeting location
If you have made private arrangements to be picked up, the driver will often meet you in the arrivals hall at gate 3.
Departures
On the fourth floor are the check-in desks for both domestic and international departures.
Drinks and food
There are several eateries, both Thai and foreign, as well as two food courts available at the airport.
Restaurants
Numerous eateries, coffee shops, juice bars, and ice cream stores can be found all around the airport. Visit McDonald’s, Burger King, or the Pizza Company for Western cuisine. There is a large selection of Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, and Thai restaurants if you love Asian cuisine. The third floor is where most restaurants are situated.
Food Magic Point
After the corridor on level 1, you may find the Magic Food Point food court. Numerous booths offer inexpensive traditional Thai fare, such as noodle soup, Pad Thai, pork leg stew, and roast duck. There is halal food.
The food court is open every day of the year. Cash is not accepted; first exchange for coupons.
Food Court
The FOOD STOP food court is located in the domestic departures hall. There are coffee shops, McDonald’s, Burger King, and noodle stores here, among other things.
Worldwide Departures
The walk from the departure gate can be quite far for foreign flights, and the lines for passport control can be long. Therefore, it would be preferable to arrive at the airport at least three hours before the scheduled departure time of your foreign trip. Once you have checked in, move quickly to passport control to avoid the line. After passing through passport control, you can choose from several places to shop, drink, and dine.
Domestic Flights
For domestic flights, check-in is available from Area A to F. It is important to note that the walk from the actual departure gate to check-in is quite far, particularly for budget airlines.
As a result, give yourself plenty of time. You can purchase your aeroplane ticket at a “buy and fly” counter on some airlines. It is also important to note that most low-cost airlines have strict regulations regarding baggage weight. To prevent having to pay an additional cost for your luggage, make sure to verify the permitted baggage weight in advance.
How to get to and from Suvarnabhumi airport
The airport can easily be reached by public transport. You can take a cab, a bus, an airport rail link, or a private transfer to the airport from central Bangkok.
Terminal Rail Link
The ARL Airport Rail Link is an efficient way to travel to downtown Bangkok without getting stuck in traffic because it is inexpensive, quick, and simple to use.
Most visitors arrive at Phaya Thai station via train (A8). You may board the BTS Sky Train from here. Alternately, exit at Makkasan station (A6) and board the MRT Subway.
- At level 1, taxis are accessible (Ground level). At gate 4, leave the terminal building and proceed to the taxi stand. Inform the booth attendant of your destination. You’ll be directed to your taxi by the clerk.
- Taxis are accessible around-the-clock. There may be a lot of traffic, especially around rush hour.
Bus
Get to the public transportation hub near the airport first if you want to take a bus into town. From the passenger terminal to the bus terminal in the public transportation hub, use the free express shuttle bus. The transport hub is open every day of the year. You can catch a public bus to Bangkok city from here. The locations include:
- Victory Monument (bus 551)
- Don Muang airport (bus 554)
- Southern bus terminal (bus 556)
- Airport Don Muang from/to Bangkok
You can take a taxi or the complimentary shuttle bus if you arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport from Don Muang Airport and need to catch a connecting flight.
Free shuttle service
You need a ticket for a flight leaving from Don Muang to take the free shuttle from Suvarnabhumi to that airport. Pass through gate 3 to leave the arrivals area (level 2). Take a right and go to the shuttle bus booth. Take the bus to Don Muang after showing the driver your flight ticket, either printed or on your phone.
