BKK Don Mueang Airport
Don Mueang Airport is conveniently located for cheap domestic airline travel inside Thailand and is only around 20 kilometres from the city centre of Bangkok.
Don Mueang is an excellent alternative for those seeking a less-distant trip from downtown Bangkok and a cheap flight to another country in the region. It is a two-story airport in the city’s northern suburbs. Thailand provides access by international flight to a wide range of locations worldwide. Regional low-cost carriers frequently fly into Bangkok’s second-largest international airport, Don Mueang.
History
Asia’s oldest airport, Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), first welcomed passengers in 1924. Don Mueang was shut down when Bangkok’s contemporary Suvarnabhumi Airport became the city’s primary airport for long-haul international flights. In response to the growth of low-cost carriers in Thailand and the addition of new travel routes, Don Mueang reopened in 2007 to serve as a hub for domestic and regional travel. Foreigners commonly struggle to pronounce the names of both airports (our top tip is to ignore the I at the end of Suvarnabhumi) and frequently forget to check which airport they are flying into or out of.
Although Terminal 1 has also been renovated, there are still long waits for immigration because too many people arrive at once between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. With a few cafés open around the clock, food and services are available on and off the plane. There is WiFi available, but it has been reported that access is difficult.
Airport Sleeping at Don Muang
Travellers claim that there are plenty of places to sleep even if the airports become crowded. Noise and poor weather are the most significant issues, although visitors feel secure and are not bothered by airport staff. There are plenty of comfortable seats and floor space on the Terminal 2 departures floor, and a darker area is accessible on the observation deck above the departures floor.
Airport Lounges
You can visit lounges by purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership programme, independent of the class of service you are travelling in. Visit the specific lounge website for more details on the lounge and how to gain admission using only an economy class ticket!

(on the opposite side of the sidewalk).
